Default Should we start reading Harrison from 2nd Year

Should we start reading Harrison from 2nd year along with Patho and Pharma.

What basically in harrison mostly is Pathophysiology. So isn't it wiser to read corresponding chpters from harrison while doing Robbins n KDT.

I know Harrison is really a tough book for 2nd year student but cant we just start looking at harrison. Though we can't memorize anything from harrison in the 1st reading but i think that 'll help to build confidence and in 3rd prof. we can easily finish reading it.

Seniors please advice me on this.

Default Well...

Well, off course its ur call...
But the way I see it, u shouldnt go for Internal Medicine while havin major doubts about physiology, pathology and specially (dunno the word in english, in portuguese is semiologia & propedeutica) ur anamnese and physical examination...

Thrust me, u gonna have 3rd - 6th year to read Harrison again and again and again... U gonna be sick from reading it at the end...

Dont worry right now... Just get a strong basis.

Well, thats my opinion...

Yes I know Pharma, MIcro n especially Patho are the most important subjects in 2nd MBBS. Any way one should not neglect them anyway. They are the concept builder n even more imp. than harrison.

What if we study Harrison only 1 day in a week; say on SUNDAY n read 10-15 pages on that day. In this way we can finish atleast vol 1 (1300 pages) of harrison by the end of 2nd Prof. without putting much strain.

Will this work ??
Please advice me .........

Go ahead and start reading harrison from this year itself its going to blast u in to a whole new world and once u start its not that difficult at all

For me, I find it hard to remember reading cover to cover, so I don't do that. But, if it works for you, that would be great. People study differently. Some of my friends read it cover to cover too.

being senior, i advice you to focus on basics.please note and make it very clear that the concepts you gain matter not the bulk which you read. Said that, doing harrisons presenting complaints sections (headache, fever, etc,,,) will be helpful along with the first chapters of every unit (like respi basics given prior to the actual system). That portion will help you understand the pathophys morefinally, try to have clear thinking because ultimately this will going to help.you can do the infection portion while you spm and maybe pediatrics....hope it helps...

Absolutely. The more you read, the more you will remember during your certifying exams.
